Israel isn't fighting for acceptance.

She's fighting for survival.

The article stated: "Israel fights to win the acceptance of its neighbors."

Acceptance is something that can only come from the Arabs. Considering that Israel was declared a state at a time when acceptance by her Arab neighbors was clearly not an option, I would argue that acceptance is one thing that Israel has consciously decided that she can forego.
