It seems the Israelis are not interested why the other side thinks the way it does

Hamas, al-Qaeda , Iran and Hezbollah all are a threat to Israel and have all one point in common - Islam . Why then is understanding Islam, its basic tenets like the concept of jihad, the attitudes towards the infidel, and its attitudes towards its own apostates ( case of Abdul Rahman in Afghanistan for instance) , NOT considered an important issue among the electorate? Surely the Israelis understand that our relationships with the Palestinians would NOT be the same if they were Buddhists? Why then is the understanding of how the other side thinks, i.e. understanding the basic concepts of Islam not considered at all in this election?
