Israel's war goals

Reader comment on item: Israel Shuns Victory

Submitted by Vic Rosenthal (United States), Mar 28, 2006 at 11:32

You write "Israelis eventually must gird themselves to resuming the difficult, bitter, long, and expensive effort needed to convince the Palestinians and others that their dream of eliminating Israel is defunct."

Not that I don't agree with you, but the 'and others' is the difficult part. Does Israel need to defeat Iran, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, etc. as well as the Palestinians?

Daniel Pipes replies:

No, Israel has one lucky break: it only has to defeat the Palestinians and the other Arabs and Muslims will eventually come around. They can only so long sustain the anti-Zionist campaign once the Palestinians have settled and live peaceably side-by-side with Israel.
