How to win?

Reader comment on item: Israel Shuns Victory

I do not think that there any chances for Israel to win the war in the sense you have suggested short maybe of complete physical destruction of Palestinians which is absolutely abominable for anyone involved, Israeli or non-Israeli.

If a nation which has been thrashed twice in such overwhelming manner as it was in 1948 and 1967, but still not gives up one's war aims I cannot imagine yet what military actions of Israel could make them give up their aims. The only solution would be voluntary, not forced abandoning of their aims by Palestinians, but at least now it appears as very unrealistic prospect. Palestinian identity as that of other Arabs seems rooted in the past, not future-looking.

However much times elapses, they will always remember the 1948 instead of thinking what benefits they could extract from the current situation. Unless Arabs will not become geared towards future, they will always dream about Palestine from Jordan to sea or about the Caliphate ruling over the entire world. But how one could change Palestinian and Arabic perception? They have tradition behind their backs and modernity in front of them. However they do not want modernity, so the look behind them.

We have the vicious circle here and at least I cannot devise here any solution. To invent some virus that would cause amnesia to arabs and make them to forget their past?
