frankly allonehhob, and i dont want to speak for iasius, but you seem to have missed the point. jesus was a rabbi and a jew. since the beginning of the jewish religion, education had been preached over violence and being kind to your neighbor was the jewish way of life. jesus was merely expounding and expanding what he had been taught his whole life. and do you seriously think that jesus woke up one morning and said, hey, im the son of god. he had been told by other people his whole life that he was the son of god so did you expect him to reject it? it is so amusing to me that in the year 2005 people can still "believe" things which have no possibility of being true, i.e. people coming back from the dead and someone being born without a father. the very notion is ludicrious. but when its been shoved down your throat since birth, i guess you eventually swallow it.

i have never heard from anyone that jesus ever said he was trying to form a new religion. someone else did that. as a rabbi, he most likely was trying to reform his own religion and add to its adherents by including the peasants and the hopeless amongst its numbers. i have no doubt in my mind that jesus was a wonderful human being but i can say with ultimate confidence that he was no closer to god then you or i. i, myself am a diest. the only thing that decides my faith is me because i refuse to become dehumanized by what someone wrote in a book thousands of years ago. and all of us carp on the moslems but what was one of the first pronouncements of the new christian religion? only those who believe in christ can be saved. substitute the word allah for christ and you have a different version of the same thing. man wasnt created in the image of god, god was created in the image of man and then conveniently parochialized.
