Reader comment on item: Bush Declares War on Radical Islam

It is a good thing after all that because of precipitate actions of Islamists everywhere, they stand thoroughly exposed before the rest of the world. The amount of money feverishly pumped into fundamentalist activity over the last three decades, whether in madrassas, military or militancy seems to have been all for nothing. The latest news comes from Netherlands, where the government is planning to ban the shroud for women: http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,13509-1823334,00.html

Afflicted with a classic foot-in-the-mouth syndrome, they are now in the government cross-hairs wherever they go. True, if that need to grab international attention had not intervened, they could have quietly stolen upon humanity in a couple of decades, as Dr. Pipes correctly underscores. Alas for the characteristic desert aggro that could not bide its time! Everyone's gotta be bludgeoned into SUBMISSION sooner than later!

Who cares what the faithful say to their Allah and his Prophet in private? But the rest of the world is simply fed up with their aggressive displays of faith in public. It is truly perplexing how this faith in the indefensible makes them behave like frenzied puppets en masse. If it is the ability to make informed decisions and to assert individual choices in times of crisis and conflict, rather than giving in to mob dictates that makes us fully human, Islam appears to render its followers less than human. Those who are not enamoured of the vicious and narrow doctrine of Islam must always remain customers for 'homogenisation'.

The latest cry for 'Death to America' was spontaneously picked up around the world following the Newsweek story of Koran abuse, which in fact resulted in Muslim deaths in far flung places like Afghanistan. In India also there were placard carrying marches to the US missions bearing the same war cry as everywhere else. So no matter how divided in terms of sub-sects, culture and geography the Muslims may be, they are totally primed to respond to a particular situation in a similar way. Not surprising in the days of IT convergence that the fatwa goes around very fast. It would be interesting for someone given over to psychopathology, to really interpret the slogan, which is like a twisted mindbender emerging out of a runaway condition of hirsutitis especially in warm desert or tropical climes.

In Pakistan, where emotions of the Ummah were especially fomented under the 'Death to America' cry, one wonders how the same America can be digested in the role of chief saviour. What does it mean for a people to be this schizophrenic? I think where Pakistan and America are concerned, there must be a good bit of Freudian dependency involved. Do you, or do you not, survive without American aid, especially when the shadow of big bad India looms so large on the horizons? Some slapshtick that! One hopes that someday surely Dr. Pipes would regale us on that one?
