Only with respect to the violence that is used by the jihadists in Iraq. Otherwise, they both want to change the US to their extreme view. In the short term, I am infinitely more worried about the Religious Right [RR} than Islam gaining ascendancy in the US. It is similar in the path of FAILURE of Communism in the western world.

We must understand and the Religious Right [RR] needs to realize that its views are not religion but radical politics, which selectively interprets the Bible to its own ends, disdainful (or worse) of all who disagree. It is the McCarthyite approach to politics. Condemn everyone who has a different view and substitute the RR view:
- Intelligent Design for Evolution??
- Free will and free choice for what the RR believes in?
The RR also has a three step agenda: gain control of three branches of government and then impose their ideology on the rest of the country. .. and replace with Constitution with the Biblical interpretation according the view of the RR.It's not the Sharia, but equally backward.

Extreme Islam will eventually fail just like all extreme ideologies do. Islam's first successes in the 7th and 8th centuries were all with the aid of armies that spread far and wide out of Arabia. Those who have a belief and support their religion are the middle gound, who will maintain a separation of church and state.
