A Very Concerned Reader: Does the word Allah mean God or is it the proper name of the God of Islam?Reader comment on item: A Saudi Prince's Threat to the Obama Administration Submitted by dhimmi no more (United States), Apr 18, 2021 at 10:17 al-Shahada or أشهد أن لا إله إلاَّ الله و أشهد أن محمد رسول الله is not in the Qur'an However, in Surat Muhammad: 19 you will find only لا اله (الاه) الا الله or: There is no God except Allah The rest of the Shahada was added by the Abbasids and their Persian mufasereen BTW: I give Mr Khattab high marks for not telling his reader that the word Allah means: God Allah is the proper name of the God of Islam If the word God means Allah then the Shahada should be: لا الله الا الله or there is no Allah except Allah BTW: al-Tabari's claim that the word Allah is a contraction of the word al-Ilah is linguistic nonsense. The word Allah is a loan word from Syriac/Aramaic as we are told by many Muslims and this is from an old post: And here is from no other than السمين الحلبي from his tafseer الدر المصون في علم الكتاب المكنون and here is the book http://waqfeya.net/book.php?bid=1194 And here is the page http://islamport.com/d/1/qur/1/35/293.html And here is where he says that the word Allah is a loan word from Syriac أنه ليس بعربي بل هو معرب، وهو سرياني الوضع وأصله: "لاها" فعربته العرب فقالوا: الله، واستدلوا على ذلك بقول الشاعر:
