QURAN 3:167 SUPPORTS THAT FIGHTING IS ALWAYS DEFENSIVE INSTEAD OF AGGRESSIVE

Quran 3:167, "...fight in the way of Allah (at least) defend yourselves'. They said, 'Had we known that fight will take place, we would certainly have followed you". As the phrase, (at least defend), is mentioned in Quran 3:167 with the phrase, fight in the way of Allah, it implies that defensive way of fighting is supported in the Holy Quran especially it is mentioned that Quran 3:167, "...Had we known that fight will take place". As the Quran supports defensive way of fighting, it is right for moderate muslims not to fight with non-muslims if they do not start their fighting with us. The same as in Singapore. As non-muslims respect our religion, why should we fight with them then?
