I think you're being a little too dismissive, Dr. Pipes. At bare minimum you should be holding al-Faisal accountable for his comments. When is the last time you heard a member of the Saudi royal family refer to jihad as it is actually understood in the Muslim world? This is the regime that falls all over itself assuring the world that Islam is peace. Dare to conceive that Iran and Saudi Arabia are engaged in a battle for the hearts and minds of the Islamic world and that they're using the liberation of Al-Quds – the third most holy site in Islam – as the centerpiece of that battle.
