Pakistan and India

Reader comment on item: [Pakistani Christians and] A War Against What?

My grandparents (from both sides) left the place where they were born and raised in the part of India which Muhammad Ali Jinnah persuaded the Indian Politicians and Mahatma Gandhi to be made a region for the subcontinents' muslims, whereupon muslims rights can be safeguarded. That area was called Pakistan.

Fast forward from 1947 to 2003.

India is a secular democracy where muslims have more rights than in Pakistan. The population of muslims in India rose up to 15 percent whereas the population of Hindus in Pakistan has dwindled to less than two percent from 15 percent.

Jinnah wanted muslims to cease as muslims and Hindus to cease as Hindus in Pakistan, but alas, only the latter got fulfilled.

Today, Pakistan demands Kashmir valley from India again on the basis that it has a muslim majority and it should belong to Pakistan. Already the area has been "cleansed" of Kashmiri Hindus who have become refugees in their own country as my grandparents were refugees in 1947. I will not go into the details of how the trains of refugees were slaughtered and more than 2 million people died in partition.

If Kashmir becomes a part of Pakistan, another fertile area would fall prey to an ideology (islamic) which was once Kashmiriyat where people of different faiths lived peacefully.

India is still trying to mature as a secular democratic republic.

But it is becoming wary of its muslim population which eventually might ask to form yet another independent nation (and cleanse of all nonmuslims) carved out of India.

I am sure the world will not let India break up yet again under the terrorist goons of the Islamic republic of Pakistan. I am sure that the story of 1947 will never be lived again. I am sure that Hindus of Kashmir will return to their homes and will be free of danger for all times to come.

Am I really sure?
