Intolerance of other religions started at the very beginning of Islam

Reader comment on item: [Pakistani Christians and] A War Against What?

Intolerance of other religions started at the very beginning of Islam. As soon as the Caliphs started military conquest of Iran, Middle East and north African countries, forced conversion was widely practiced. Most Muslims used Hadith in Quran to justify imposition of Jiziya tax on non-Muslims. The main slogan of organised Islamic religion is "One religion, One Prophet and One Umma (Community)". Naturally, the consequence of this ideology leads to utter hatred of other religions and use of force to destroy other religions. They have even persecuted and killed great Sufi saints like Mansoor in the name of religion. It is time for the people to move away from authoritarian version of religions and work towards advancement of common humanity.
