The Lesson From the Elections in PakistanReader comment on item: [Pakistani Christians and] A War Against What? Submitted by Maurizio Cereda (United States), Oct 12, 2002 at 19:26 We should watch with a lot of concern the results of the recent elections in Pakistan. Everything is going to be even more difficult for the US and allies in that part of the world.I think Mr. Musharraf's policy of repression on the moderate parties has had the unpleasant results of favoring the rise of islamist parties. And these events also demonstrate that when people have to choose between corrupted rulers and fundamentalists, they prefer the latter. We should remember this when thinking about a post-Saddam Iraq.
