A New Dark AageReader comment on item: [Pakistani Christians and] A War Against What? Submitted by S.R.Judah (United Kingdom), Oct 16, 2002 at 11:11 The real sad commentary on the present day is that after a difficult and tortuous journey, Western civilisation had reached a point, where religious belief was of no significant political portent. Yet now, religion is back on the public agenda; in fact, we're choking on god related issues. And now, after the atrocity in Bali, religion as a pretext for an all encompassing war, though not explicitly stated, is right back in the public mind. I fear that the world is being gripped by war psychosis, fuelled with ancient but not forgotten religous animosity. And it is here that the danger lies of ushering in another long era of the Dark Ages. All sides, and particularly Islamic minds, need to concentrate on what future we wish to see for mankind. The alternative is truly ghastly. The prospect of a new Dark Age, filled with irrational certainty, divinely sanctioned murder and brutal imposition of a dominant ideology on a luckless minority, fills this commenter with nothing but dread.
