Stripping the Islamic fanatics of power

Reader comment on item: [Pakistani Christians and] A War Against What?

The militant Islamics in this world are funded by oil money. Terrorism could be shut down simply by denying the terrorists the funding base they have enjoyed for over 40 years. No oil money, no terrorism. It's that simple!

Clearly, what the Western World ( with the US in the lead) needs to do is to embark on a program of energy independence from the Middle East. Think about the Manhattan and Apollo projects. These were crash engineering programs designed to quickly achieve results. I firmly believe that the US and her civilised allies could achieve energy independence in 10 years.

This would energy conservation, alternative energy sources, and a willingness to resume building nuclear power plants. Already there are promising new developments in alternative energy. Hybrid cars are just around the corner from mainstream acceptance. Nuclear power plants would get any safer unless we invest in R&D to improve output while decreasing waste.

With energy independence, the civilised world can move on. The Middle East could rot in its own bath of tribal hatred.

The decisive shots in the war on terrorism will be won in the lab, not on the battlefield.

Just my thoughts
