We might all be wrong

Reader comment on item: [Pakistani Christians and] A War Against What?

Submitted by Robert Zimmerman (United States), Oct 26, 2005 at 16:47

What we are witnessing is a failure of the human race as a whole with religion as a catalyst. What served for so long as a widespread code of ethics has been morphed and tainted by those in power, or those who the masses looked up to and were led astray... ON BOTH SIDES. Humans are doing very little to leave a positive impact on our future. I don't want to sound "doom and gloom," but the sooner we realize we're all screwed unless we ALL change, then nothing will get done or nothing will unite us.

Rampant deforestation, extreme dependence on petroleum, perpetual conflict all over the globe, clash of entire civilizations/religion, tainted world leaders, escalating warfare, religious fanaticism, dependence on technology, global warming, pandemic disease, media corruption, murder/crime, I'll stop there. We are such an interesting animal that has just gone too far. It is (or was) such a beautiful planet so it is a shame to see us fail. It could be so sweet for so many, but like I've said before... maybe we don't want to be saved (and I don't exactly mean in religious terms). If we all lived our life with our own experience in mind and stopped trying to change others we'd all be better off. We are chasing an answer that we are incapable of understanding and our growing frustrations is boiling inside us as an entire species. I can feel it building up to something, what you ask? I don't know, but it doesn't look good. Experience is all we'll ever know, enjoy, you only have 1 shot and who knows what happens after its done.
