Freedom of choice

Reader comment on item: [Pakistani Christians and] A War Against What?

From commenter "Imran": "Look at the world today or let us see the "Best" example of freedom, "America". It's a system that offers "Freedom"- but where is the social structure heading towards…A rape in every four minutes, 50% of adult population divorced…is this what we mean by "Freedom". "

Dear Imran

I have read your post with great interest and would like to point out some facts with regards to your above sentence. Firstly, it is only by Freedom that you able to know this statistic in the first place.

In the West one is not forced into a marriage and then has to live an unhappy marriage for the rest of his or her life due to one's religious belief or tradition. A rape is highlighted cause a women would not be afraid to report the incident, where as in many Islamic countries it is possible (in my humble opinion) that maybe the woman would hide this act due to guilt and being outcast by her family.

America may have social faults but the people are free to choose what they follow rather than be forced to follow one way. I hope in the future that we can live in a world where we all choose to follow the right path as a matter of choice.
