Why no Condemnation?

Reader comment on item: What is Jihad?

Submitted by Chris (Republic Of Korea), Aug 1, 2004 at 17:50

I have been trying to arrive at a balanced understanding of Jihad, using this useful site as just one source. In all my research I find frequent protests from Muslims that jihad is peaceful, but questions which arise from this protestation seem never to be answered. For example, why is there no apparent, open condemnation by Muslims of those Muslims who violently misuse the faith, why is there no apparent Muslim activity to stop those individual muslims who are in error about Jihad, or distance them from the faith, and why does Islam allow priests who preach violence to continue to teach the faith?

I would welcome guidance on this.
