Where is the outrage?Reader comment on item: What is Jihad? Submitted by Baron (Saudi Arabia), Jan 12, 2010 at 06:57 Sidra- Ultimately, it doesn't matter what the true meaning of Jihad is. Perception is reality. If, as you say, the Taliban has hijacked the positive meaning of the word for its own dark use, where is the outrage in the broader Muslim world that a small group is giving the entire religion a universally bad name? Living in the Middle East for a good portion of my life, mostly I just hear the same old sob story that Muslims are the perpetual victims of the non-Muslim world. I will say there is some truth to that, but as long as the Muslim world is inertly reactive instead of dynamically proactive, the perception that craziness predominates it will remain strong, and easily exploitable by those who do wish the Muslim world ill harm. It all comes down to fear, and in that context, silence is easily interpreted as concurrence. Cleaning your own house would be beneficial.
