Submitted by Ryan Waller (Canada), Jul 19, 2004 at 16:35 It seems that the word Jihad has been long disputed in meaning and biblical reference, to the point of learning to read arabic and then searching through an untranslated koran is necessary. I find it hard to believe that there is no truly concise, specific definition to such a controversial idea.Besides a shifty and generally vague usage of the term, one motif that survives generous interpretation is preserving and defending the faith of islam. If this is true, crusaders who marched on Jerusalem in retaliation for the ordered destruction of the sepulchre could argue in linear terms.
