Reader comment on item: What is Jihad?

Submitted by idya sarah (Indonesia), May 30, 2009 at 23:38

I'm an indonesian moslem woman. when i was a child,my parents enrolled me into madrasah so i could learn the islamic history and practises. Unlikely what the western people's negative views bout madrasah (as the school for terrorists), what i learned there are what the real islam teachings which is the teaching of love and caring. jihad was one of the subjects that they theached there. they said jihad is a condition where moslem people died in the cause of doing good things that are told to do by Allah SWT. such as when a father died when he tried to rescue his wife/kids from a robbery, or when a student died in an accident on his/her way to school, or a mother died when she labored her child. that's why everytime i went outside i've always start the day with good intention in the heart (for only search for Allah's blessings)so if it would be my last day that i shall died in jihad. Not even once that i've ever been teached that the practice of jihad is to kill non-moslems, never!! . even in a war condition, islam forbid to harm the plants and animals. so i disagree if jihad are viewed negatively or being misused even by moslems as a reason for conducting violence. wallahualam bishawab.
