Bit of a shame

Reader comment on item: What is Jihad?

I wonder how many of these myopic self styled Islamicists realise how ugly and depraved the Old Testement is if you also butcher its understanding into neat isolated quotes from an ivory tower perspective. Personally, I've got very little time for indoctrinated fundamentalist religion of any kind but it is a shame how hardly any of the people on this board seem to believe that genuine moderate Islam exists, or that even if such people do - they must be guilty by association...

Terrorism is deplorable and repugnant, but so is to a lesser extent intolerance, bigotry and comfortable generalisations which form the seeds for division and xenophobia that will in turn prevent any kind of cross cultural understanding and moral progress.

I stumbled on to this site, ... but I think that he could add a little more balance to the 'spiritual struggle' interpretation rather than tag it on the end of a rant about the evils of Islam compared to the 'righteous West'. There has been plenty of tyrany performed in the name of all three major monotheistic religions, perhaps you can say Christianity has manifested itself much more benignly than Islam in modernity.

however, I'd argue that's just because of its synthesis with the Renaissance/enlightenment/liberal philosophy and secular statehood rather than any comparitive purity. ...try not to stereotype everyone with a different point of view on Islam as some kind of terrorist apologist -...
