Letter to Ms. Smith (Amazon)

Reader comment on item: Amazon.com's Koran Desecration Problem

Submitted by Deveri Johnson (United States), May 30, 2005 at 23:32

Ms. Smith,

I'm sure by now you've seen a copy of Mr. Pipes' article regarding the "defamed" Koran sold through Amazon by a third party.

If I were to order a "used" Bible, being the Christian that I am I would expect that the previous owner may have made some personal notes in it and should neither be shocked or surprised at the content. That's the risk of buying a used book. I would not have a claim to anything knowing that I was purchasing a USED book. I believe that both Amazon and Bellweather Books acted quickly and appropriately to apologize, going above and beyond a reasonable solution.

Do not allow this incident to hold Amazon or Bellweather Books hostage. Reinstate Bellweather Books' agreement to do business with you - they have done nothing wrong and provide a unique service. After all it is still America where we are innocent until proven guilty - not Palestine where we are guilty and punished until proven innocent.

With sincerest regards,
Deveri Johnson
