Reader comment on item: Amazon.com's Koran Desecration Problem

Submitted by Ruth (United States), May 20, 2005 at 13:50

Thanks for a timely heads-up, and to David Frum for linking to this. I sent Ms. Smith my encouragement to allow usual marketplace customs to handle it. The buyer should leave the cruelest, most cutting negative feedback she can think of (within 80 characters) for Bellweather Books, accept her refund or a replacement copy, and let it go.

"Death to all Muslims" is not something an American would think of. An American college student, disgusted with something s/he disagreed with and wanting to mark a book before reselling it, would write something personal and vulgar, not a call for mass extermination. We just don't think that way.

If I were buying a Bible, I would feel ashamed to seek out the cheapest used copy.
