In response to Mr. Auster's comment

Reader comment on item: Amazon.com's Koran Desecration Problem

Submitted by Dan (United States), May 24, 2005 at 12:37

I have spent a lot of time reading many of the postings relating to the "koran incident" but I like Mr. Auster's the best. His comments, while somewhat radical, directly address the source of the problem in this country. I also recognize many will have objections, on constitutional grounds, to some or perhaps much of what he proposes, however there is no suicide clause in the constitution or any of our other founding documents.

We need to be able to recognize unusual circumstances and respond appropriately, perhaps not forever but at least until the problem is solved. His solution serves that purpose. The above "objections" aside however, his solution has only one major flaw; the need to renounce multiculturalism in its present incarnation. Unfortunately, that has become the national politically acceptable mantra of the US for the last 20+ years, or so, and is what has allowed the infiltration of this country w the poisonous ideology of islam, whatever myriad form it takes. This will ultimately be the stumbling block which prevents Mr. Austers solution from being enacted and may ultimately prove the downfall of our country. Nonetheless, his suggestions deserve serious consideration by the relevant officials if they wish to solve the islam problem here in the US. Concurrent with enactment of his suggestions, we must also reevaluate our profound dependence of fossil fuel energy from that part of the world.
