Reader comment on item: King of Pop Michael Jackson and Black Converts to Islam

Submitted by John (United States), Mar 8, 2006 at 12:13

Why can not we give these converts the benefit of the doubt? maybe there is something that Islam has given them that the church could not? Why can not we find out directly from them why they are converting? Why should we think on their behalf and assume while they are still living amongst us, and we can still ask them? Why this intolerance, and it is us who are criticizing these people for not having freedom and democracy, and we are so hostile toward them? Why we, Americans, choose to be ignorant of the others, and only depend on one source to take the facts from?

Mr. Pipes has his own opinion, but are there any other opinions? When a product in the grocery is being bought by many people, we start to believe that it is good, so maybe there is something about Islam that is good making all these people, black, white, men and women choose it as their belief!!! Why can't we study a phenomenon in a scientific way through research and unbiased examination? Why we choose to be the slaves of our own ignorance? How many of us can do nothing but drink and watch football, and here we are questioning the belief of 1.2billion muslims? Do we have the right to question their belief WITHOUT studying the belief from its original sources? All these are questions I think we should ask ourselves before judging muslims or christians or jews or hindus...
Best regards.
