in response to reader comment: conversion to Islam and the Burdah

Your argument, Bill, really has no foundations.

Whereas non-Muslims are reading the Quran to find the sections that involve violence, the majority of Muslims read the Quran to be inspired to a better way of life -- a life of justice, tolerance, good deeds, and of fullfilling the five pillars of Islam.

If we examine the number of Muslims that carried out suicide missions, we will find that it is an insignificant number when compared with the number of Muslims there are in the world.

With such small numbers of people who carry out suicide missions you are happy to generalize about Muslims and stereotype them.

If what you say is to be believed as fact, then my grandmother who has been reading the Quran for over 50 years (reading it from cover to cover, over and over again) should have gone on a suicide mission a long time ago.

The fact is, if you can find a person willing to go on a suicide mission the underlying reason for the mission has to make sense to him/her. And that reason does not need to be, necessarily, of a religious nature.

In the article A near-death experience By Vered Levy-Barzilai (http://www.haaretzdaily.com/hasen/pages/ShArt.jhtml?itemNo=178487&contrassID=2&subContrassID=14&sbSubContrassID=0&listSrc=Y)
we read the words of would-be suicide bombers.

One of the suicide bombers wanted to "to avenge the death of her beloved by carrying out a suicide bombing"

The other bomber interviewed stated his reason for wanting to carry out his mission thus,
"No, not at all. I don't hate Jews. That's not it. I just wanted to take part in my people's war of national liberation. It's a holy war for the liberation of occupied Palestine. That's what I was thinking all the time."

The article will show ,for those who take the time to read it, that religion is not always the primary motivator of suicide bombers.
