It's HOMICIDE, not suicide!

Mr. Pipes

Please consider using the phrase "homicide bomber" instead of "suicide bomber", where possible, in your future articles.
As an initial step in the increased effort against terrorism let us call a spade a spade and avoid inuendos and anachronisms. It seems we are finally waking up to the fact that there is a world wide conspiracy to destroy our way of life.

It is time for the media to acknowledge that the world is faced with a rash of "homicide" bombings and not " suicide" bombings. The use of the word "suicide" is to create sympathy for the bomber----poor thing, he (she) was forced to this act by conditions beyond his (her) control and must kill innocent and unarmed civilians to highlight conditions of poverty and deprivation. The old story that "The Devil Made Me Do It" has no application here.

Recent events have confirmed that many educated and supposedly intelligent people have deliberately conducted these terrible attacks and their backgrounds are not poverty and deprivation. Their objective is to kill as many unsuspecting civilians as possible using their own bodies as a device for delivering the explosives. They are strictly a weapon of war whose objective is to kill and maim as many people as possible, to break the will of their enemy, to create terror and cause their enemy to retreat, and to claim victory as part of their goal to make Islam predominent in this world. Homicide bombing is a weapon of terrorists intended to create fear and chaos among an unarmed populace, to destroy their will and their normal way of life.

Since the objective of these bombers is strictly to kill and maim others, according to our laws they are committing "homicide" and should be considered to be murderers. I suggest that the media change the emphasis in their reporting to recognize that these murderous incidents are HOMICIDE BOMBINGS, not suicide bombings.

Daniel Pipes replies:

no, I disagree

-- all bombings are homicide, so this word is not descriptive
-- suicide conjures up fanaticism, not pity
