Muslims should solve the terror problem, not others

Reader comment on item: What Do Terrorists Want? [A Caliphate and Shari'a]

Submitted by Frederic Pinsonnault (Canada), Dec 20, 2006 at 08:11

I just read the analysis that terrorists want a world islamic caliphate and some answers.

What insulted me is that muslims writing here are portraying the USA and Europe states as jewish or christian and making the events of the last few years a continuation of the crusades. I am an AGNOSTIC in my daily life like most people in these countries. A lot of agnostics still declare themselves christians for the sake of fitting in but are really not christians in practice. I believe in science and reason, not some revealed truth that come out of a prohet. This religious war is an invention in the twisted minds of extremists. The rest of the world is not fighting islam, but dangerous extremists.

The europeans Christians had their fair share of fanatics and extremists in the past that had power over their people. BUT, western cultures delt with their own extremists and separated church from states and diminished the influence the religious leaders had over the population in general.

It's time muslims communities do the same. I know most muslims are peace loving people that are terrorized by a few people in their communities that holds the "TRUTH". It's these passive muslims that should stand up as a group and ostracize their extremist leaders and make clear that their behavior will not be tolerated.

Why does the rest of the world has to send in armies to muslim countries to kill the extremists?
...
BECAUSE regular muslims ...do not revolt against muslim extremists.

When armies come in, they do damage to innocent muslims fueling more hatred, creating more people susceptible of "converting" to terrorism... etc.

Well if you want the other countries to stop killing innocent people in counter-terrorist operations, kill or arrest the muslim extremists before we get there!!!

We should just pull the military out of the muslim world and tough it out until they deal with THEIR extremists.

What if that does not work and jihad terrorist acts against western countries continues year after year?

I say invasion, conquest, mass-killing, assimilation and no giving the country back...These ideas are those of inhumane military dictators... but like the terrorists, we'll have a rationale to excuse them, we were pushed by muslims to resort to it. It's THEIR fault we are so violent!
