Reader comment on item: What Do the Terrorists Want? [A Caliphate]

Submitted by Mark Townsend (United States), Sep 10, 2006 at 22:29

Before Muhammad died, He requested paper and pen be brought to record His last wishes; and Umar uttered the words of division: "We have the Book, and that will suffice us."

Bahá'í interpretation of Revelation 12 associates the red dragon with the first, the Umayyad Caliphate and the Woman and Child with Islam and the Promised Mahdí respectively. Now the President of Iran believes the coming of the Mahdí, or Qa'im [He Who will Arise on the Day of Resurrection] is imminent.

Bahá'ís interpret the Advent of the Báb in 1844 CE/ 1260 AH as fulfilling the promised of the Mahdí, of the family of Hashim, with a new Book. His duty was to prepare the way for the coming of Bahá'u'lláh (1817-1892). Bahá'u'lláh stood on Mount Carmel, in Haifa, and designated the Spot for the Shrine of the Báb.

Bahá'u'lláh [The Glory of God] wrote stern letters to the crowned rulers of His day, including Sultan 'Abdu'l-Azíz, the Caliph, warning Him of His overthrow and the suffering of Turkey, because of the treatment of Bahá'u'lláh and His fellow exiles, who were ultimately sent to the penal colony of 'Akká, in Palestine, in 1868. His Teblet of Carmel was a charter for a New World Order, which had no need for military jíhad.

Concerning the Caliphate, I would say that what God has put asunder, let no man try to put back together.
