Reader comment on item: What Do Terrorists Want? [A Caliphate and Shari'a]

Mr. Pipes:

How much plainer can the situation be? All the blathering and armchair anaysis from the mainstream media, and the truth comes does to this article.

Immediately following 9/11, I began my research to try to find the answer to the question which appears as the title of your article here. After much ferreting out, I came to the exact conclusion expressed here: The jihadists' "real project is the extension of the Islamic territory across the globe, and the establishment of a worldwide ‘caliphate' founded on Shari'a law." Just the other day, on one of the many blogs I visit, a commenter posited that we need to find out what the terrorists' demands are and engage in a dialogue to see if we can meet those demands. I was incredulous. How can anyone be so ignorant--especially after the London bombings, which have led to a more open discussion, at long last.

Manji's essay in Time Magazine is refreshing to see! I subscribe to Time and couldn't believe my eyes when her article appeared in the Essay Section, the section I recommend as priority reading to my composition and government students.

We need to rename the War on Terror. Let's start calling it "The War on Radical Islam." Let's call this conflict what it is!

Thank you, Mr. Pipes, for this insightful article with the excellent links.
