in response to reader comment: FROM THE KORAN ITSELF

James you seem to love quoting the Qur'an without really taking the time to understand what you are reading, like most Christians who try to demonize islam and Muslims. Although the Quran does have verses in it that are violent these are in no way are to be interpeted to go out and indiscriminatly kill those of other faiths. Alot of the verses you quoted are of a historical context. They were given to the Prophet Muhammed (PBUH) during a time of war, and were to be used during the lifetime of the Holy Prophet (PBUH).

For Example when you quote the verse that states the Muslims should not take Christians and Jews for friends it is referring to those Christians, and Jews at that time who were engaged at of war with the early Muslim communtiy. I personally have many Christian friends, my ex wife is christian, my children are christian. I as a devout Muslim, and Imam I don't interpet the Qur'an in that way. Unfortunately there are Muslims out there that do. These are the ones that both Christians, and Muslims should focus our attention on, not eachother. Just as there are violent verses in the Bible, it doesn't mean Christianity is a violent religion. But those particular verses are have a historical meaning, and should be taken in a historical context. The same with Hadith, and Sunnah. I would personally like to have a more indepth discussion on all of this with you if you don't mind you can contact me by email.

until then Assalaimu alaikum
