Demonstratably questionable analysis

Reader comment on item: What Do Terrorists Want? [A Caliphate and Shari'a]

Submitted by Adam (Canada), Jul 26, 2005 at 20:45

If the goal is to establish an Islamic caliphate, why attack the West? Why not start with sub-Saharan Africa? The US and Europe wouldn't care enough to step in and stop them, and there are already many millions of Muslims already on the ground, at least in the northern regions. These countries are very wealthy, resource-wise, have large populations, and the states are weak enough that the task would be relatively simple. With Africa in hand, the terrorists would have a much stronger base to work from. It might take a bit longer, but patience (sabr) is an Islamic virtue, after all.

You want to stop terrorism against the West, pull out of the Middle East. That means no more foreign aid for either Arab countries or Israel, no military deployments, nothing. Just business relations and we leave them alone to run their own affairs. The notion that "Islam is responsible" is difficult to seriously contemplate.
