Barrack is not the first to come!

Reader comment on item: Barack Obama through Muslim Eyes
in response to reader comment: His name is Barak Hussayn Obama.

Barack Hussain Obama - interesting the man that would become the next president descends from a Muslim family tree; his two names are close to the names that the U.S. has repeated over and over again: Osama & Saddam Hussain. Now the more ironic matter is that his running mate's name Joe Biden - well sounds too familiar to Bin Ladin when pronounced. If Mr Obama does get elected on Nov 5th - the victory is indeed noteworthy. But then Muslims and Muslim legacy has not been alien to the so called Western Hemisphere.

After the fall of the Spanish Muslim's the Spanish Muslims were expelled, killed or forced by the sword to become catholics. Still the Spanish language has more then 8000 Arabic words and many Spanish names have Arabic roots. Later the same conquerors took millions of Muslim Africans from Africa to the Western Hemisphere. The largest number of the Muslim slaves ended up in Brazil and many as documented also were brought to the American colonies.

Europeans were the first to adopt the one nation and one religion concept and this resulted in the expulsion and forced conversion of religious minorities and specifically Muslims living in Sicily, Italy, France, Malta. Yet today centuries old Muslim communities survived as in the case of Muslim Tartars in Poland, Latvia and Finland. More settled communities manage to survive still today in Bosnia, Albania, Kosova, Bulgaria and other Eastern European countries. Mr Obama is not the first person of a diverse background; there were many individuals throughout history that had this blended factor. Unfortunately many here choose not to take a note of this and only point fingers of wrong doing against Muslims. History shows that more people were killed, communities wiped out and entire nations decimated (aboriginals in Australia, South America, North America), and people were judged by their colour by the so-called followers of Christian faith! Yet there has been no real apology forthcoming from these groups nor have their actions changed even though the times are changing.
