The reason the Iraq War started was because of bad intel. Was it the right thing to do? Probably not. I have never heard of Saddam saying he would help out the USA, but he did say he didn't trust al quaeda, because you can't trust extemists. Keep in mind he "understood" why we were attacked on 9-11.
