Deterrence for the wrong purpose.

Reader comment on item: Israel's Unnecessary War in Lebanon

Submitted by Harry Friedmann (Israel), Jul 20, 2006 at 04:25

The war in Lebanon does not represent a change of policy of the Israeli government. The resulting deterrence is considered as a means for a more efficient implementation of the plan to withdraw from most of Judea and Samaria and the transfer of the Jewish inhabitants. This will create a new basis of terror against Israel, masterminded by Iran and Syria and fundamentalist Islam in general. Islamic fundamentalism is immune to deterrence since for them Israel's reaction to terror is used to mobilze the sympathy of the World against Israels "disproportionate" use of force

The war in Lebanon does not represent a change of policy of the USA either. It represents only a means for the implementation of the "roadmap" towards the creation of a Palestinian terror State, in agreement with the policy of the Israeli government and quite surprisingly also with that of the Egyptian , Saudi and Jordanian leaders. For these leaders, the creation of the Palestinian State is just the next step in their "salami" strategy for the elimination of the Jewish State. Thus, the roadmap seems to be the peace process between the Arab States and ...the USA.

Note that Israel does not occupy Palestinian territories, because Judea and Samaria had no political status whatsoever except for the historical fact that they were part of the Land of Israel conquered by the Romans, who gave it the name Palestine in order to obliterate the name Israel. These territories were occupied by Transjordan in the 1948 Israeli war of independence.

Transjordan, which is called Jordan at present, occupies 76% of the region called Palestine. This region was given as a "present" to the Arabs by Great Britain in 1923 after it received the "Mandate over Palestine" from the League of Nations in 1922 for the purpose of establishing the Jewish National Home, in accordance with the "Balfour Declaration" of 1917. In a series of "White Papers", Britain made a mockery of its promisses and obligations, stopping Jewish immigration, and thereby destroyed the only chance of the Euiropean Jews to escape the Holocaust.
