Reader comment on item: Israel's Unnecessary War in Lebanon

Submitted by Shayne Zucker (United States), Jul 18, 2006 at 11:47

I've noticed as well a change (albeit small) in the tone and words of PM Olmert. What had started out as "we will not rest until Hezbollah has disarmed completely" has since turned into a "we'll stop when the Lebonese army comes in". Unfortunately, nothing short of a total dismantling (and even then, perhaps more) of Hezbolllah's war machine should be allowed.

Furthermore, you don't go back far enough in time. Even before the foolishness of Oslo. Remember, Israel had Arafat and his cronies surrounded in Beirut in 1982, but let them go. Had Menachem Begin not allowed the PLO to flee (ala King Saul), perhaps Oslo would never have been necessary.
