Reader comment on item: Israel's Unnecessary War in Lebanon

Submitted by Kenneth S. Besig (Israel), Jul 19, 2006 at 09:48

Thousands of us here in Israel have been fighting for decades to prevent everything from the Oslo Accords to the Lebanese route, to the Sharon disengagment farce/tragedy. And to no avail, we have been called blood thirsty war mongers who despise peace, some of our members have even gone to jail for opposing these dangerous Left wing Israeli plans, and at least one senior IDF general was fired for his opposition. I have sent dozens of letters, appeals, and even requests to our various leaders and public opinion makers in an attempt to change their minds regarding the above mentioned failures.

And yet, the Israeli voter continues to support these failed plans and the politicians who propose them no matter how deadly and concrete the evidence against them. Go figure.

In the present round of fighting the one thing I am waiting for and indeed expect, is that the radical Left wing Israeli media will soon publicly oppose Israeli military operations and begin a campaign to demoralize the Israeli public, demonize the Israeli military, and glorify the steadfastness and determination of Hizbullah and Hamas, just like they have done every other time in the past. And by the radical Left wing Israeli media, I mean all the Israeli Hebrew newspapers and magazines, all the Israeli television stations, and all the Israeli Hebrew radio stations, including the one run by the Israeli army. The English language Jerusalem Post will probably continue to support the war against Hizbullah and Hamas.

One has to live in this country to believe it. Israeli Jews born and raised in this country for generations, who should know and recognize their enemy, who should know and recognize the enemies plans, continue to vote into office the worst appeasers our country can produce. If it wasn't so serious and usually fatal, it would make you roll on the floor with laughter!
