The uninformed in western nations prefer to stay that way. It takes too much time away from toys & self-indulgence to bother getting informed. besides, it's popular and fashionable to blather their support for compromise and diplomacy.

The U.S. has achieved unprecedented levels of ignorance to national, political, and worldwide affairs. Take a gander at the last election & one will see that any politician can read the direction of popular slant and depth of ignorance. I think Hitler could have won the presidency with this population. A politician doesn't have to worry about anything out of his past no matter how recent. Just talk whatever the public wants to hear.
