appeasement, "peace now," and "unilateral withdrawal" must die for Israel to live

Reader comment on item: Israel's Unnecessary War

Dr. Pipes - thanks so much for your comments regarding the necessity for a complete and total rethinking of Israel's foreign policy and regional conduct.

The Israeli government has failed the Israeli people over and over again, to devastating results. Hopefully this latest bloody round will at last convince Olmert, Peretz, and the left of Israel, including her media and "talking heads" that the time for defeatism, anti-Zionism and "painful concessions in the interests of peace" is OVER. These "experiments" having yielded nothing for the Israeli people but a prolonged terror war, and now this latest round, and outright rocket cum military assault over Israel's borders.

The time has come for Israel's leadership to finally, finally stop playing treacherous games in the interests of catering to one or another group of domestic or foreign friends (such as the so-called leadership of the EU and the UN) and for once show that they deserve their positions of leadership by instituting and maintaining policies based on steady, determined, and unstinting adherence to the principle of longterm survival for Israel and her people against the jihadists and Arab chauvinists. This is the only way forward. Anything else, or anything less, leads us only to more broken promises, more bloodshed, more broken dreams and more demoralization. Peace now is simply not to be had. Neither are unilaterally declared borders (whoever heard of such nonsense working in history anyway?!)

It is time for Israel's leadership to get it straight -- destroying Israeli homes and synagogues and kicking Israelis around is NOT going to bring peace. It is only going to destroy Israel's deterrent capabilities, for it shows a government with no regard whatsoever for the very thing it is supposed to serve -- its people. it is time for Israel's leadership to get it right. It needs to get to the business of fighting both the military war AND the war of ideas.

The onslaught of Arabist and jihadi propaganda MUST be coherently and succinctly answered out of Jerusalem, in all the languages of the world, including Arabic. The people of Gaza and Southern Lebanon are under the sway of monsters, adn the people of many campuses in the West are serving as their useful idiots. It is Israel's job to break the backs of the puppets of Teheran and Damascus in Gaza and Lebanon and then start, for once, start TALKING to the populations these terroists have brainwashed to hate. It is also Israel's job to quit apologizing and instead start explaining things to the West, which is in a great deal more peril than its own leadership frequently appears to realize. It is time to shut down the incessant radio and TV propaganda in Gaza and Lebanon, just as it is time to silence the terrorist guns.

Best - Rena
