Reader comment on item: Israel's Unnecessary War

Submitted by Bill Storey (United States), Jul 18, 2006 at 20:45

A brilliant and correct piece by Daniel. So long as Islam exists, and requires the extinction, supression, or conversion of the Jews (and everyone else), negotiation and compromise are useless. And it's not just Hezbollah, it's Hamas, al Qaeda, Syria, and Iran.

The Israeli incursion into Lebanon is doomed to fail unless ground troops are sent in by Israel and others, including the United States. A demilitarized zone in southern Lebanon is a good idea, but not the best idea. The best idea is to take Syria out, and then establish all of Lebanon and Syria as a protectorate guarded by a new "Coalition of the Willing" that will certainly include Israel, the U.S., and possibly Britain and others.

If this does not happen, Israel loses again, and if Israel loses, we lose in Iraq, and then Turkey, then Greece, and then Europe. As Daniel has noted they have lost everywhere since 1993. If Israel loses, Syria and Iran gain strength - as do Hamas, Hezbollah, and al Qaeda - and a greater and more terrible war draws closer.

The West must show resolve here. It is the Rhineland, the Austrian Anschluss, Munich and the Sudetenland all over again.
