Earth to Charles: Come in please!Reader comment on item: Deterring Tehran Submitted by Sword of Islam & The Babies of Beslan (United Kingdom), May 17, 2006 at 19:05 I'm not even sure that it can even be defined as a 'war' in the classic meaning of the word. If it were a 'war' things would be much easier to control. The US isn't using even a fraction of the military muscle that it could bring to bear if it were a 'war'. The thing that is hamstringing the occupation of Iraq is the fact that it is a 'regime change' rather than a war. If it were a war of occupation rather than one of liberation we would not be hamstrung to the extent that we are. The invasion & occupation of a country the size of Iraq with such phenomenally low casualties cannot be described as anything other than a success. Especially if juxtaposed against the MILLIONS who died in an 8 year war between Iran and Iraq. With no territorial gain. Obviously though, there are some people out there living in fairy land who imagine that the overthrow of a militaristic regime is a failure if a single trashcan is knocked over during the tussle. The same voices of ignorance who were silent whilst UN sanctions killed considerably more people. The same voices who could not be heard protesting the mass graves and rape rooms of Saddam's glorious reign. Silence is generally accepted as meaning approval in a legal context. We want out as soon out Iraq as soon as possible. Unfortunately, the Iraqi's don't want us out. If they did want us to leave, the last thing that they would do is to kill each other with such enthusiasm as this is the one thing that is keeping us there.. Save your compassion for the tens of thousands who are being slaughtered by Muslim militia in Sudan - considerably higher casualties in a civil war that is presumably o.k with you since it's perpetrators are committing these atrocities in the name of Allah.... PS: "Even the Shilte people fought the american military." I think you'll find that they RAN AWAY hence the incredibly low casualties! They prefered to display their manliness by blowing up women & children in that charming Middle Eastern way of theirs! Have a nice day.
