Reader comment on item: Deterring Tehran

Submitted by Robert H. Tyrka Sr. (United States), May 9, 2006 at 13:47

Ironically, the only way for a non-military solution to work is if we let the world, including the appeasing Chinese, Russians and French, know that we and perhaps Israel WILL strike at their nuclear facilities and any other military and political centers that can bring about regime change.

Perhaps then, remembering how damaging regime-change in Iraq was to French and Russian commercial interests, those countries, along with China, will withdraw their support from the mullahs.

Unfortunately, a more likely conclusion on the part of those three nations is that the U.S. will continue to dither as it has for the past quarter of a century until Iran has its fait accompli and can brandish, with little fear of being bombed into submission, its own nuclear weapon. After all, isn't North Korea a shining example to them?
