...write "flautist" are they referring to a legitmate flute player, or someone who is merely pretending to play the flute with bravado? Help me here.

- What have flute players got to do with it? Obviously, only a good flautist could flaunt his flautism. You can't flaunt an attribute that you don't have. Mind you, somebody pretending to be a flautist, and pretending well, could be flaunting their ability to pretend as opposed to their ability to play. It all depends on how good a liar the guy is. Any other interpretation would flout the accepted definition of the word flaunt irrespective of flautists. Hope that clarifies!
