Boycott Iranian products, beginning with their oil!

Reader comment on item: Deterring Tehran

Submitted by Dr RJP (United States), May 9, 2006 at 17:57

I have a fourth solution: a worldwide boycott of Iranian goods, beginning with oil.

Why should countries opposed to a nuclear Tehran continue to buy its goods? Isn't it possible for them to buy them elsewhere?

Rather than let them threaten to cut off oil in retaliation, we should do it voluntarily.

Also, let us not forget which countries helped Iran get its nuclear technology and materials: Russian and China.

It is no coincidence that they are the two top buyers of Iranian oil. If we could persuade them to buy their oil elsewhere, then we would have some real, economic clout.

Otherwise, we'll be spitting in the wind.

If the Iranian on the street is made to suffer individually for the misguided actions of government leaders, then their will be a change of leadership. After all, they've done it before and they can do it again.
