Reader comment on item: Deterring Tehran
in response to reader comment: Why use of nukes make no logical sense

Submitted by Pat (United States), May 10, 2006 at 11:56

The Iranian leaders are not interested in logic. Rafsanjani has said that it's perfectly okay to "damage" the Islamic world with a nuclear weapon if it means the destruction of Israel. Nuking Israel means the incineration of Islam's third holiest site. It also means the obliteration of the Palestinians. If Israel retaliates in kind, there's no telling how far the devastation would spread. It could affect Mecca. Do Muslims care?
