The Pope's argument -- that the Koran is the voice of God and therefore immutable, whereas the Bible represents man's interpretations and therefore allows a reasoned interpretation which may change with circumstance and time -- is exactly the argument presented by Rodney Stark in his new book "The Victory of Reason; How Christianity Led to Freedom, Capitalism, and Western Success".
