A very interesting article, and I'm astounded by the quotes from American academia, it is indeed a "scandal" as Daniel Pipes suggests.
The good news is, there's more! May I heartily recommend the following book which cites this article. I've just completed reading it and it's refreshing, and in no way is it a revisionist book - it simply states the evidence and exposes this supposedly "peaceful" religion for what it is.
Osama Bin Laden is not unique and has simply taken up the mantle of what Muslims really desire - the re-establishment of a Caliphate.
