How are we to understand your contention that the moderate Islam you speak of elsewhere is a live possibility as a doctrinally and psychologically stable religion? If killing infidels is a central duty of the religion, any moderate, non-fundamentalist, peaceful form of the religion would seem to be untenable or unstable (like bonds between certain atoms - can be done, but the molecule will be highly unstable).

Of course there are peaceful Muslims here and there. But there are peaceful communists, too. Please explain or direct us to links in this site where you explain why we should not simply reject this religion wholesale.

To modernize Islam, Muslims need to establish a new understanding of concepts like jihad, whereby the martial component of jihad is bleached out and something decent evolves. But this can only happen by honestly acknowledging what jihad has meant through history, not by hiding it.
