Reader comment on item: Jihad and the Professors

Submitted by Arlinda DeAngelis (United States), Nov 2, 2002 at 02:38

As Dr. Pipes so clearly proves with this excellent article, according to American Academia, Jihad is an "internal struggle" rather than an "external struggle." It is the interior element which raises Jihad above all other acts of atrocity. A Jihadist is no ordinary soldier fighting a war. He is an internal struggler fighting an enemy within himself for the greater honor and glory of Islam and Allah.

Too bad I didn't know that walking the still empty streets around the World Trade Center. Too bad I didn't know that when the stench of three thousand dead was everywhere and on everything in New York. Too bad I didn't know that when the skies of New York were filled with a grey mist from the crematorium that had been the World Trade Center. Too bad I didn't know that when I heard taps following the discovery of more dead firemen. Too bad I didn't know that when I read about the deaths of family and friends in the newspapers.

If I had known the real meaning of Jihad, the destruction and death that took place on September 11 could have been a celebration.
